Questions About the Email Search panel
If I enter information in two or more fields, does my search return only messages that contain all the information?
Yes, in this case, your search returns only those messages that contain a match for all fields in which you entered information.
Are the fields in which I enter text case-sensitive?
No, search fields are not case-sensitive, so you can enter text using any combination of upper- or lower-case letters. For example, to find messages that contain the text ZipZam, you can enter either ZipZam or zipzam.
If I search for a phrase, are common words ignored?
Yes, the has phrase option ignores common words, such as prepositions (of, to, in) and articles (a, the, than) in a phrase you enter. For example if you enter the phrase the football pool for this week, your search returns messages that contain the words football, pool, and week in proximity to each other, such as in the following phrases:
football pool this week
football pool last week
football pool for next week
Can I use wildcards in any of the text fields?
No, wildcards are not supported in any of the text fields in the Email Search panel. For example, if you enter john* in the From or To field, your search will not return results. However, you can use wildcards when creating queries using the Boolean Search panel. For details, see Boolean Search Panel.
