Add users when they receive valid mail. Requires mail servers that bounce mail asynchronously, such as Microsoft Exchange or Qmail.
Add users when they receive mail. Requires that your email server verifies a recipient as a valid user on the server (via a SMTP “250” response from the server).
SmartCreate will automatically create users for mail sent to valid addresses, this includes both primary addresses nd aliases. You may consider turning on domain aliasing or domain substripping (if applicable) to avoid the creation of multiple users accounts.
SmartCreate adds users to the organization that contains the domain of the email address. So if your domain is one organization and your users are another, SmartCreate may not be the best method. In the example below, if SmartCreate is turned on for the domain, acme.com, users will be added to the Acme User Org.
You can use SmartCreate with any mail server, including servers which bounce mail asynchronously such as Microsoft Exchange.
1.
The user receives email via the Postini Compliance Services, which passes the SMTP “rcpt to:” command to the receiving email server. This command contains the recipient's address.
3.
If the user hasn’t been added, the system checks your SMTP server's reply to the “rcpt to:” command to determine if this is a valid user.
4.
If the recipient is valid, the system automatically adds the user to the org associated with the user’s domain. John@acme.com, for example, is added to the org associated with acme.com.
5.
If the org is configured to send Welcome notifications, the notification is sent to the user first thing the next morning.
Turn on SMTP Autocreate only if all users in the domain should receive email protection (not just some users).
SMTP Autocreate requires that your email server verifies a recipient as a valid user on the server (via a SMTP “250” response from the server).
