HORMEL FOODS SELECTS POSTINI TO BLOCK JUNK EMAIL
Leading consumer foods marketer blocks junk e-mail
before it reaches corporate network
REDWOOD CITY, CA, June 10, 2003 – Postini (www.postini.com), the leading email security services provider, today announced that Hormel Foods (NYSE: HRL) has selected Postini to block the rising tide of junk email aimed at their employees. A leading multinational manufacturer and marketer of consumer-branded meat and food products, Hormel Foods is deploying Postini's Perimeter Manager™ service to block junk email and viruses before they penetrate the company's corporate network.
According to Mike Tolbert, CIO of Hormel Foods, the company noticed that junk email had become a productivity issue late in 2002. The company attempted to remove the worst junk email using server-based filters, but discovered that commercial emailer tactics were evolving too quickly for the company to keep up. "We evaluated all of the products and services that we thought would meet our needs and chose Perimeter Manager for its combination of very low overhead operation and customizability," Tolbert stated. "Since we turned it on in early May, our users have been very satisfied and are able to focus on growing our business rather than sorting through their email in-boxes."
Postini's Perimeter Manager service blocks junk email and viruses utilizing the company's high performance heuristics engine and massively parallel email-processing infrastructure. The service allows email administrators to easily implement policy-based email filtering to block the increasing amount of junk-mail that is now aimed at most corporate networks daily, reducing user productivity and exposing employees to offensive material.
