Postini Helps Clinical Laboratories Secure Messaging and Develop Compliance Strategy
SAN CARLOS, CA, March 28, 2007 — Postini, a global leader in on-demand communications security and compliance solutions for email, instant messaging, and the web, today announced that Clinical Laboratories of Hawaii, a leading diagnostic laboratory in Hawaii, has selected Postini to secure its messaging and address its archiving and encryption requirements. Postini's Communications Security and Compliance suite brings vital archiving capabilities and critical encryption services using the functionality of Postini's on-demand platform.
Clinical Laboratories of Hawaii services acute care hospitals in Hawaii and operates 60 outpatient service centers throughout the state. Clinical Laboratories relies heavily on email for communications, and needed solutions to ensure the security and compliance of this sensitive data.
Postini's Communications Security and Compliance suite allows IT administrators to redirect email, instant messaging, and web traffic through Postini's secure, global data centers. "The solution was on-demand and the implementation was painless. Another facet of Postini's compliance solution provides mail spooling when the client servers shut down. In October, 2006 when a 6.7 magnitude earthquake cut power to several lab servers, including all email servers, Postini's services enabled messaging continuity, and Postini continued to receive all communications without overloading Clinical Laboratories' system when the servers' power was restored.
The organization turned to Postini's communication compliance solution to fight spam, encrypt email with trading partners, and comply with healthcare standards such as HIPAA. Additionally, Postini's archiving services enabled Clinical Laboratories' email discovery process, helping to guard against costly litigation discovery and contractual disputes.
Clinical Laboratories executives and legal counsel wanted to proactively address compliance and litigation requirements. Existing internal data centers were overloaded, and IT staff was dealing with too many administrative burdens. By implementing the Postini managed service model, Clinical Laboratories was able to alleviate work from IT staff and data centers. The Postini managed services solution eliminated the need for desktop-to-desktop installation and maintenance of an on-premise solution.
